The Alaska appears on Adelaide rooftop bar 2KW’s Forgotten Classics list for a few reasons. It’s a drink often overshadowed by its more famous cousin, the Martini, says bar manager Shaun Pattinson, but makes a smart apéritif, and packs a serious gin wallop.
Stir 60ml gin (Shaun Pattinson recommends Tanqueray), 15ml yellow Chartreuse and three dashes of Angostura bitters over ice.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, then garnish with a twist of orange rind, rubbing it around the rim for an extra citrus hit with the first sip.
Serve cold and crisp.
