Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands local government areas will shut down as the city grapples with a growing cluster of COVID-19 cases.

Overnight the state recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19, with four acquired via community transmission.

Masks will be mandatory in indoor venues outside the home, and residents will only be allowed to leave home for one of four reasons: for essential work, to buy essential supplies such as food and medication, to care for a vulnerable person, and to exercise.

In a press conference this morning, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said snap lockdowns are now an “Australian way of life”.

“I know this will mean some disruption to people’s lives but we’ve done this before, and we’ve got through it over those three days in the past, and if everyone does the right thing, I’m sure that we will be able to get through it again,” she said.

Greater Brisbane last went into lockdown on January 8.

The Premier pleaded with residents not to panic-buy over the next three days. “The supermarkets and shops are full of supplies and you’ll still be able to go out and get food as part of this lockdown.”
