Artisanal spaghetti alert! Lario International, importer of the sort of high-end cult Italian products that have become a fetish for our top chefs (Amedei chocolate and Fabbri pasta among them), has today opened a retail showroom at its warehouse in Sydney’s Waterloo, and it’s stocked with plenty of good stuff you won’t find anywhere else.
“I have a certain amount of products that can’t be put into the main distribution channels because there’s not enough availability, so we decided to open a retail store for those really obscure and not readily available kinds of products,” says importer Gianmarco Balestrini.
Translation: nougat from Veneto, made by hand with wild honey from the marshlands of Venice, ultra-premium extra-virgin olive oil from the first press of a tiny Umbrian producer, a small-batch pistachio paste from Bronte, and plenty more like it.
