With Father’s Day fast approaching, it’s time to think about a gift that’s as unique and spirited as he is.

Whether Dad has recently ventured to Japanese shores (or is eagerly counting down the days until he will), or considers himself at the forefront of the hottest trends in spirits, Fuji Single Grain Whiskey is a premium Japanese whiskey that combines the best of both worlds, blending meticulous craftsmanship with multi-layered notes.

Perfect for any Japanophile father, Fuji Single Grain Whiskey is made exclusively at the beautiful and world-renowned Fuji Gotemba Distillery, at the foot of one of Japan’s most must-see sights, Mount Fuji. A blend of three different grain whiskeys, it is distilled using three different methods which impart their own flavour profiles.

Here’s why it should be at the top of Dad’s wish list this year.

Japanese whiskey with broad appeal

If you’re not sure exactly what whiskey suits Dad’s tastebuds, Fuji Single Grain Whiskey is a versatile choice.

Well-rounded and distinctive, it’s a blend of three different grain whiskeys all produced at Mt. Fuji Distillery, distilled using three different methods—a heavy Bourbon style distilled using doubler stills; a Canadian type made using kettle stills resulting in a medium luscious and fruity finish; and a Scotch style using multi-column stills for a lighter and softer finish.

The quintessential characteristics of each type of grain whiskey are featured in the Fuji Single Grain, making it delicately fruity and mellow sip with a multi-layered profile that is easy to love.

Crafted by highly acclaimed Master Blender Jota Tanaka — who was last year inducted into the Whiskey Magazine Hall of Fame — Fuji Single Grain Whiskey was recently awarded a Gold medal at the 2023 International Spirits Challenge and won Best Japanese Whisky at the Word Drinks Awards.

The decadent drop has aromas of poached pear, rustic fruit tart, bitter chocolate, Cognac and marron glacé, with a seamless mouthfeel.

As for the finish? Expect a mellow, gentle sweetness and pleasant spice with a medium-length finish and a hint of incense.

Award-winning distillery at the foot of Mt. Fuji

Situated in a unique part of the world, Mt. Fuji Distillery is located at the foot of its namesake, 620 metres above sea level. The cool, high climate with moderate temperature changes and high humidity is ideal for making whiskey.

With Japanese-style whiskey quickly making a name for itself around the world, Fuji Single Grain Whiskey celebrates both the traditional and cutting-edge craftsmanship unique to the distillery.

While most other Japanese distilleries follow the production method of Scottish whisky, Fuji adopted the techniques and technology of American and Canadian whiskies, as well as Scotch, combining the distillation methods with Japanese craftsmanship for a one-of-a-kind style.

The water used for production is the rain and snow melt from Mt. Fuji, which trickles down through the mountain to an underground aquafer that is 100 metres deep. This journey is said to take around 50 years, with the water reaching the distillery crystal clear, pristine and soft.

Rounded flavours to pair with food

Once dad has been surprised with the premium drop, he’s bound to want a taste. And what better way to spoil dad than preparing the perfect meal to go with his drink.

Our top pairing tips? Match Fuji Single Grain Whiskey with foods that have moderate character and high approachability, like roasted or caramelised nuts and dried fruits.

Raw fish (especially smoked salmon and tuna), root vegetables and red meats including beef, venison, duck and pork pair well with the drop, as well as sweet desserts with flavours of dark chocolate, cinnamon, caramelised apples and figs.
