REVIEW
Every neighbourhood needs a place like One Ford Street. Not too fancy, not too plain, it’s as welcoming and comfortable as a friend’s kitchen with an easy-to-love menu and a wine list with depth and surprises. In an annexe behind the Cricketers Arms Hotel, in an indoor-outdoor room with pickles on the shelves and a pergola strung with hanging plants, Fabio Dore works the floor with a well-drilled team, each with a good working knowledge of the regional Italian wine list, all of whom could become your next best friend. Chef Sam Bennett keeps his dishes unfussy and generous: start with kingfish carpaccio or a simple tomato and goat’s cheese salad topped by farinata wafers with a glass of Sardinian vernaccia, followed by rustic spelt pappardelle studded with sausage, or hunks of Black Angus beef, moreish fried potatoes and super-sized rocket leaves showered with parmesan. For the best value in the neighbourhood, choose the $65 sharing menu.
