A sturdy and versatile pan to have in your arsenal of cookware, an ovenproof skillet can do just about anything; sautéing, searing, roasting, pan-frying, baking, braising, broiling, roasting – you name it.

These trusty kitchen must-haves come in a variety of builds, but we recommend sticking with cast iron or stainless steel. These materials are designed to withstand heavy heats, which is necessary for oven use. An added bonus to the cast iron build is that the pan will take on its own seasoning when used and cared for properly, making it especially non-stick and easy to clean after each use.

Whether you’re making your first foray into the skillet sphere or it’s merely time for an upgrade, we’ve curated an edit of some of the very best ovenproof skillets to take from stove to oven with ease.

How do I know if my skillet is ovenproof?

Always check the manufacturers’ instructions before placing your skillet into the oven. Typically skillets that are composed entirely of metal are suitable for use in the oven, but only under certain temperatures. Do not place a skillet in the oven if it has any silicone or plastic on it, as this will melt.
