REVIEW
Malt offers a modern take on fine dining, with old-school charms like a piano player and soft lighting paired with timber tables and rustic décor. The three-storey building, once a 19th-century produce market, adds a sense of history to the dining experience. Begin with half a dozen oysters, served with a dash of apple and ponzu jelly, or tortellini with a silky pumpkin filling and sage beurre noisette. As a main course, confit pork belly enriched with a robust chorizo purée, summer bean cassoulet and saffron foam shows verve. Game Farm roast chicken on a bed of potato purée, spinach and pine nuts is equally flavourful, and vegetarians can choose from a dedicated menu. Service is seamless and genuinely warm. The well-considered wine list should keep buffs entertained, particularly the exciting by-the-glass selection. Desserts like the brownie ice-cream sandwich, with malt ice-cream and salted caramel, sweeten the deal.
