I’m looking for a restaurant to go to for dinner in Melbourne. Something with a great reputation, good food and reasonable prices.

You’re in for a treat: good food at reasonable prices is what Melbourne’s all about, so you’re somewhat spoiled for choice there. John Lethlean, our Melbourne editor and restaurant critic, has written some positive things about new places such as Hako and Seamstress in recent issues of the magazine, for one thing. He has also just posted a first-taste preview of Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons, the brand new ‘third millennium trattoria’ at Crown Entertainment Complex in Southbank from Maurice Terzini and Rob Marchetti, the Melbourne boys behind such Sydney success stories as Icebergs Dining Room and Bar and North Bondi Italian Food, which sounds pretty promising from the looks of the menu.
We also have some recommendations just in from Victorian kitchen luminaries Shannon Bennett (Vue de Monde), Andrew McConnell (Three, One, Two) and Alla Wolf-Tasker (Lake House) as part of our April issue’s ‘Best of the Best’ special.
And, as ever, our restaurant guide, posted in its entirety on this site, is a great resource, listing the very best restaurants in each state – if it’s there, it’s there because we recommend it – and you can find regular updates in our reviews section.
