These are strange and trying times for the hospitality industry in Australia. Federal Government recommendations for “social distancing” and against “mass gatherings”, enforced 14-day quarantine for all incoming arrivals, the latest shut down of non-essential services have created a perfect storm for restaurants, cafés and bars who rely on local and visiting diners to patronise their venues.
For the hospitality industry, working from home is not an option. Chefs, baristas and front-of-house staff cannot tele-conference their livelihoods. A restaurant cannot operate remotely. The weeks of uncertainty that are looming for the economy and society at large has forced many venues to take stock, and think of creative solutions to ensure their businesses survive.
Below are the hospitality businesses and operators who are reinventing the wheel.
This list will be updated regularly. If you’re a hospitality business owner with an offering for diners, please email Gourmet Traveller‘s digital editor Yvonne C Lam at ylam(at)bauer-media.com.au
Please ensure you provide details about:
– What your business is doing, given the changed circumstances (Takeaway menu? Ready-to-eat packs?)
- Where can customers find this information (Is there an online menu or shop? Please provide links, not email attachments.)
– How they can order or purchase products from you (Via phone? Email? Your own online ordering system?)
We appreciate your patience as we work to keep this list updated.
