The ultimate oyster and wine experience

From a seaplane expedition to at-home indulgence.

Looking for more than just a cellar door experience? The winemakers of New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay and the oyster farmers of East 33 are teaming up this summer to host a series of events. Dubbed Natural Wonders, the events range from an intimate oyster farm tour and in-water live shucking, to a bespoke three course lunch with complementary Cloudy Bay wine pairings. Dust off your diary, this is what you’ll want to include on your itinerary.

Natural Wonders at Wallis Lake

On this day trip guests will be taken by seaplane from Sydney Harbour to Wallis Lake, some 300km north of the CBD, and the heartland of the Sydney Rock Oyster. Here, try a hand at oyster shucking (and tasting) while barefoot on a beach with the water lapping at your feet. Sip on a glass of Cloudy Bay Pelorus sparkling wine amongst the pristine waters of the oyster farms and think about how good life is.

At Thirty-Three Degrees, a restaurant overlooking the Wallis Lake marina, the journey continues with an oyster-inspired three-course lunch. Each serving is expertly paired with Cloudy Bay wines, which showcase the aromatic flavours of New Zealand’s terroir in its iconic sauvignon blanc, Te Koko barrel aged sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. Kicking off in January 2022, this is one not to be missed.

Guests hear from families who have been cultivating these delicacies for generations over a bottle of Cloudy Bay’s new Sauvignon Blanc 2021. The vibrant palate is open and appealing, with ripe passionfruit, white peach and a hint of lime.

Natural Wonders at the Boathouse

For those in Sydney, experience Natural Wonders closer to home at three water-view restaurants. Celebrate the start of the season with a Natural Wonders dining package which includes a fiesta of East 33 oysters and a glass, bottle or magnum of Cloudy Bay wine. Watch live oyster shuckers at The Boathouse Rose Bay, opt for takeaway and create a waterside picnic at The Boathouse Hotel Patonga, or indulge at Barrenjoey House to make the most of lazy days. Packages available through December.

Natural Wonders at home

If these events are beyond your locale, there’s no need to worry. The Natural Wonders experience is also available as a luxurious at-home pack, including two dozen of East 33’s premium molluscs and a bottle of Cloudy Bay’s quality sauvignon blanc. The vibrant citrus notes of the wine complement the salinity and mineral notes of the Sydney Rock Oysters, making this pairing the ideal accompaniment for a balmy evening at home. Available for delivery in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
